Research Offices, Boards, Committees

Within the umbrella of any academic medical center, coincident offices of research reside among a university, it’s affiliated medical school, and its affiliated health system/teaching hospital/medical center. Thus, for any particular school in our directory, there may be multiple ‘identically-named’ units in the search output; in such situations, we denote whether the unit is affiliated with the university, school, or health system. See example below for clarification re: identically-named units:

We use the term Research Administration to present units that communicate the policies, procedures and processes in areas including grant applications, proposal development and review; contractual agreements and award management; sponsored programs, projects and research; identification and promulgation of funding opportunities, and human subjects research.

We use the term Research Compliance to present units focused on reducing risk that promulgate guidance relating to: animal care and use; biosafety, chemical safety; conflict of interest; data/HIPAA privacy/information security; environmental health and safety; export controls; foreign influence; human subjects protections, research ethics/integrity; research misconduct; research safety; responsible conduct of research; international collaboration; stem cell research; as well as industry-sponsored research and technology transfer.

We use the term Research Oversight to present units tasked with monitoring specified compliance directives and include units such as:

- Embryonic/Human Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee (ESCRO)
- Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC)
- Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)
